Text of Letter Sent to T&F Alumni and Friends in July 2009:
Dear WMU Men’s Track and Cross Country Alumni and Friends:
We are pleased to send you this update on the efforts to reinstate the men’s track and field and
cross country programs at Western Michigan University. Current leadership at the University
recognizes the historic value and future benefit for student athletes of indoor/outdoor men’s track
and field and cross country.
President John M. Dunn has agreed to present a proposal to the WMU Board of Trustees to
reinstate the track program if it can be demonstrated that we will stand behind the effort with a
first-year financial commitment of $300,000 and our willingness to support the program on a
recurring basis through contributions and estate planning. We are proud to tell you that a sum of
approximately $150,000 has been secured already.
There is no need to convince you of the value of bringing these honored programs back to their
rightful place at WMU. Please join with us in demonstrating our commitment by making a
significant gift. Your gift will be included in the WMU Gary Fund and is tax deductible to the extent
permitted by law. Please complete the enclosed gift/pledge form and return it in the envelope
provided.
WMU cannot reinstate these programs without new financial resources to support them. This
campaign to raise the remaining $150,000 will be short and intense. You will not be asked to send
your check until the goal has been achieved, pledges secured and approval of the return of the
men’s programs granted. All gifts or pledges must be in no later than December 31 in order to
implement the programs as soon as possible, perhaps as early as the fall 2010 season.
Your immediate and generous support is vital. Take a good look at what you can afford to give
now and in the future. Then, join us in making an immediate gift in support of WMU men’s track
and field and cross country.
Thank you and Go Broncos!
